Hi, I’m Bonnie Sharpnack, RN & Certified Holistic Cancer Coach

During my husband’s cancer journey, I became an advocate for him and others who are trapped by our broken health care system. Even our trusted doctors don’t have enough say to change the system either. That’s why when I learned how dramatically Reiki reduced his pain and left him without nausea and fatigue after chemo treatments, I  knew my mission was to educate everyone about what “Reiki” could do for cancer patients and for you as a caregiver. Now I use a diverse set of integrative wellness methods that activate the healing intelligence in your body.

I believe that focusing on the whole patient instead of just one part is how we can have healing in our lives and those of our patients.

Through this belief I explored other types of healing and integrative wellness methods. I was lead to follow the path of learning Reiki, an integrative wellness practice being used in state of the art cancer treatment centers.  My journey started in 2013 when my husband became ill with cancer.  We followed all of the routine cancer care treatments, but again there was a piece missing in his care and that was when I decided to take a Reiki class. He was severely debilitated after chemo and had significant pain.

After my first class and certification in Reiki I, I began giving my husband treatments on a daily basis.  The effect these treatments had on him emotionally and physically was amazing.  He became less anxious was never sick from the chemo treatments and achieved a much greater spiritual connection, he began to really open up and know himself and his needs and to really embrace his journey of cancer.

He embraced Reiki so much that he decided to take a Reiki 1 class so he could give himself treatments when I was unable to be with him in the hospital.  The Reiki greatly decreased his anxiety and many times his blood counts would rise even after chemo. My husband passed from his disease but through our journey together, I understand more than ever the importance of a holistic treatment approach to disease.

I continued on with my Reiki training and am now a Certified Reiki Master Teacher.  I use my Reiki training daily and have seen many wonderful effects this gift of love and energy can have on patients and their caregivers.  I use Reiki on my patients in a surgical unit as it greatly decreases their anxiety and pain after surgery.

Children are especially open to the wonderful Reiki energy and the effect is profound following surgery, as it decreases their fears and pain.  I have certified many wonderful people in Reiki and am so blessed to see how they are using their training to better their lives and the lives of others. Practicing Reiki in the healthcare setting is a wonderful way to connect with patients and families and the outcomes are amazing.  Reiki helps the health care practitioner decrease anxiety and burn-out from the many demands we face every day in caring for our patients.

We as professional caregivers can make a difference in the lives of our patients and our own lives, and that is why I am on a mission to help as many professional caregivers get Reiki certification now.

My passion to help others in their journey to wellness and recovery has not stopped with Reiki, I am also a Certified Holistic Cancer Coach which has helped me to understand the importance of assisting patients and families to navigate through the multitude of treatments available in cancer care. I also understand the importance of teaching patients and families about nutrition, supplements, relaxation techniques, and the effect their emotional state has on the disease.

Cancer recovery doesn’t have to be a long and painful journey. You can reclaim your power and your life.

Bonnie’s Holistic Work In Hospital Systems

Bonnie is currently serving Washington Health Systems as a Reiki Master Teacher and Integrated Healthcare Consultant. She is teaching managers and employees how to integrate the following services into traditional medication only programming:

  • Aromatherapy
  • Reiki Certification
  • Mind-Body Medicine

The Hospital System is currently integrating these services into their Hospital Behavioral Health Units in two counties, where patients are admitted from the Emergency Rooms.

By helping them integrate holistic health methods, patients will be able to have a greater hand in their own health as well as reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. By doing so they will not only enjoy more peaceful sleep with less pill medication but also eliminate the emotional barriers that slow recovery.
